The Kitchen

The picture shows a full 360º view of this 4.3m x 3.1m kitchen, as flat output. It is often confusing to see these images for the first time. A good way to understand the image is to imagine it as being a paper print about 3 metres long, standing upright, directly in front of the viewer - who is looking at centre of the picture.

Now imagine the left and right hand edges being dragged round behind the viewer's head to form a complete circle. By joining the two edges together the split window becomes one, as it should be. The viewer, in the centre of the circular picture, can now turn his head and see the walls and floor areas as being straight and square, the distortion having been largely corrected within the now circular, tube-like shape of the picture.
